Cultural relations between France and Russia have old and strong ties. Russian culture always has its place in the French artistic life. Let’s mention a tremendous success of M. Mussorgsky and N. Rimsky-Korsakov musical compositions at the Paris World Exhibition, far-famed S. Dyaguilev “Russian Seasons” and Svyatoslav Richter’s Musical Festival in Tours, Serge Lifar and Rudolf Nuriev creations in the Grand Opera and Russian cinema achievements at Festivals in Cannes ( M.Kalatozov’s “Quand passent les cigognes” and N.Mikhalkov’s “Le soleil trompeur”).

Heading into the millennium, this new Festival of the Russian culture in Cannes is going to be a new step in the development of this cultural union.

At the same time we foresee that the festival will become one of the most interesting social events of the South Coast of France going together with the traditional festivals having already won the wide popularity.
